DIRECTV Wins Customer Satisfaction Accolades

Skyreport 5/20/09 - For the ninth year in a row, the University of Michigan's American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) has named DIRECTV the nation's number one satellite TV provider in terms of overall customer happiness, beating out DISH Network by seven points.

According to ACSI, DIRECTV also outperformed all of the cable companies surveyed with an overall index score of 71, up three points from last year. The DBS providers scored five points higher than Cox, 12 points higher than Comcast and Time Warner Cable and 20 points higher than Charter.

Sky Report: PDI-SAT and DSS Installations deploy first DIRECTV COM1000 HD System for Hilton Brands PDI-SAT, a leading distributor of DIRECTV equipment, and DSS Installations, a leading dealer for DIRECTV Free-to-Guest HD services and installation for the Hospitality market, successfully deployed their first 24-channel all-HD, DIRECTV COM1000 System for Hilton Brands this month. DSS Installations has a Master Operating Agreement for all Hilton Brand Hotels Nationwide.

The Hilton Garden Inn selected for the beta launch, a flagship 162 unit property, is located in El Segundo, California. It is Hilton Brands national technology center and showcases all the latest technology and advanced services available to the market. The property also has the latest LG and Phillips HDTV panels designed with the latest Pro:Idiom™ encryption technology.  The COM1000 system provides DIRECTV a stable QAM modulated RF platform to make HD more affordable for owners today, and expandable for tomorrow.

The future of Free to Guest Video is HDTV. The COM1000 System, available from PDI-SAT, is designed to work exclusively for DIRECTV HD services and its “Plug & Play” architecture delivers optimum performance of up to 24 channels of HD using Pro:Idiom encryption while only occupying 8 RU of rack space. The COM1000 is designed to decrease the space required, add more HD channel capability, and lower the per channel costs of delivering HD to these types of properties.

The DIRECTV COM1000, developed in partnership with Thomson Inc. is another step forward in the development of technology platforms that deliver DIRECTV’s HD services to Multi-Client properties. Distribution was recently awarded to PDI-SAT for the COM1000 System due to their experience and commitment to SMATV deployment for the Satellite Industry over the past two decades.

DIRECTV MDU Digital Bulk Programming Change

BULK PROGRAMMING CHANGE EFFECTIVE MARCH 4^TH, 2009

MDU Operators, effective March 4, 2009, DIRECTV will no longer offer Whole House Total Choice Bulk (TMW) programming as a digital bulk package for properties registered on or after March 4, 2009. DIRECTV will continue to provide properties registered prior to March 4, 2009 with the Whole House Total Choice Bulk programming package in accordance with the bulk programming agreement signed by the property or Operator. We will keep you posted regarding any future changes at properties registered prior to March 4, 2009, which DIRECTV maintains the right to change in accordance with its agreements with you and the properties.

Obama Makes It Official: DTV Deadline Extended To June 12

President Signs DTV Transition Bill Into Law

President Barack Obama has signed the bill extending the DTV date from Feb. 17 to June 12.

His transition team had called for the date to be moved, and the bill was passed a week ago. But the president had pledged to put bills out for a five-day public comment period, which he did with the DTV bill.
"During these challenging economic times, the needs of American consumers are a top priority of my administration," the president said Wednesday.
"This law, which was crafted in a bipartisan way and passed overwhelmingly in the House and Senate, ensures that our citizens will have more time to prepare for the conversion.
"Millions of Americans, including those in our most vulnerable communities, would have been left in the dark if the conversion had gone on as planned, and this solution is an important step forward as we work to get the nation ready for digital TV. My administration will continue to work with leaders in Congress, broadcasters, consumer groups and the telecommunications industry to improve the information and assistance available to our citizens in advance of June 12."

Senate Approves Digital TV Transition Delay to June 12th

Are you surprised? I'm not and I doubt most people are. After all, it's the Federal Government we're talking about and they've blundered the Digital Transition from the beginning. Now because they've underfunded and created too much confusion, the Digital Transition has now been pushed back to June 12th, 2009. If you haven't already applied for an received your coupons, get in line.

2009 Inauguration Mix channel on DIRECTV

DIRECTV will use it's signature interactive news mix channel to bring you 8 camera views of the 2009 Presidential Inauguration on channel 102 and 352 and of course it will be available in HD.

DIRECTV will also run a “blog ticker” at the bottom of the screen, updating viewers on the networks’ perspective on this historical event, the first 100 days of Obama’s presidency, significant quotes and upcoming guests.

Coverage will start at 7am to 2pm Pacific Time.
